It is very important to keep your eyes moisturized by using artificial tears. Most artificial tears are available over the counter without a prescription. There are different types of artificial tears, some with preservatives and some preservative free. If you use artificial tears more often than four times a day, it is usually recommended that you use the preservative free type. Ointments are also available and are used mostly at night to provide moistness for a longer period of time. They may cause blurriness the next morning, however. Also available by prescription is a product called Lacri-serts. These are tiny pellets that are placed under the lower eyelid and used in conjunction with artificial tears to provide lubrication for a longer time period. The following is a partial list of artificial tears and ocular ointments. You will have to experiment to find which one is the most helpful for you.
