Weege is my mom. She passed away several years ago but I was unable to bring myself to do this memorial until now. Her passing has been the most difficult ordeal of my life. Not only did I lose my mother, I lost my very best friend. Mom was 75 years old when she passed away. She had many health issues including Diabetes, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Heart
Disease. She passed away after having open heart surgery.
She was happily married to my dad for over 50 years. She had three children and always wished for many more but finances were tough at that time. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren. She never missed a sporting event, school function, award banquet or music performance that her grandchildren were involved in. She also attended many events involving her nieces, nephews
and grand-nieces. She loved them all and was always there to help them out.
My mom's real name is Louise but she always disliked that name. When the grandchildren came along and couldn't say Grandma Louise, it became Grandma Weege. She loved that nickname and even had a vanity plate for her car that read, "Weege". Family was very important to her and she was always happiest when she had us all gathered together. She would do anything for her
family.
Because of her love for family gatherings, she was always planning "outings" including Easter Egg Hunts, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas Eve celebrations and family birthday dinners.
Weege was a talented lady. She was very crafty and taught me how to knit, crochet, cross stitch, bake and cook. She was well known in the community as, "The Cake Lady". She made beautiful decorated all occasion and wedding cakes. She passed that talent on to me as well although I don't do many cakes now. She was the most generous woman I knew. If she had
a dollar and you needed it, she would gladly give it to you. The grandchildren knew that when Weege won bingo, she would be slipping something into their pockets. It was just her way. She loved angels, butterflies, going to play bingo with her friends, playing the slot machines at the casino, knitting, making fleece blankets, eating out and traveling. We had many wonderful family vacations and I will always treasure those memories.
My brothers and I were fortunate to have a stay at home mom who welcomed all our friends into the house. In the summer, we would all cram into the station wagon and she would drive us 30 minutes away to the lake where we would swim and picnic. Many times the neighbors would fill their cars and join us. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for me and a Boy Scout leader for my brothers.
She was president of the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association). Once my brothers and I were grown, she became a secretary at our local elementary school.
Mom was a strong, talented woman and I will miss her always.
